A New Vision
The KEMH Redevelopment Project
Our new hospital will be much more than just bricks and mortar, stethoscopes and Band-Aids. It is a new vision in how Bermuda provides hospital care today and for decades to come. Patients and visitors will enjoy a state-of-the-art medical facility, matched by an exceptional standard of clinical practice and patient-centred care:
- A new, modern, and energy-efficient “green” building that centralizes all acute care services
- Advanced clinical facilities
- Education and wellness units targeting major chronic diseases on-island
- Single–patient ensuite rooms with views
Thanks to this high level of clinical quality, an added expertise in specialty areas, and a renewed dedication to every patient’s comfort, dignity and satisfaction, the need to seek off-island care will be significantly reduced.
A Continuing Commitment
A new building alone will not solve all of the clinical care needs facing Bermuda today. Bermuda Hospitals Board recognizes this challenge and is responding through a sweeping set of clinical initiatives now underway.
- Clinical Overseas Advisorships
- New Patient-Centred Nursing Practice Standards
- Expansion of Clinical Specialties
- Monitoring of Quality Care Standards
- Advanced Technologies and Electronic Systems
A Strong Investment
The financial model for securing the KEMH Redevelopment Project was selected through a thorough assessment and the advice of trusted experts. A form of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the Design, Build, Finance, Maintain (DBFM) model provides a wealth of benefits to the project, to BHB, and to Bermuda:
- Elimination of financial risk
- Control and transparency of costs
- Maintained ownership
- Assurance of long-term quality
